Congressional Update: Border Security, Immigration Reform, and Girls' Sports

Rep. Juan Ciscomani on Border Security Legislation

Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ06) secured a major legislative victory with the passage of the Officer Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act in the House. The bipartisan bill, which garnered support from all Republicans and 50 Democrats, addresses the growing concern of high-speed chases at the border involving human smuggling.

"The bill penalizes drivers who fail to yield to federal law enforcement," Ciscomani explained. "Many of these drivers are American citizens hired by cartels through social media to transport illegal immigrants." The legislation is named after Officer Raul Gonzalez, who was killed in the line of duty during such a pursuit, leaving behind two children.

The bill has strong support from the administration, with Senator Ted Cruz carrying it in the Senate. It aims to deter dangerous pursuit behavior by implementing harsh penalties, especially in cases resulting in fatalities. Sheriff Mark Daniels of Cochise County, where many pursuits originate, has expressed support for the measure.

White House Executive Order on Women's Sports

Ciscomani recently attended the White House signing of an executive order protecting women's sports. The order addresses federal funding for institutions that allow biological males to compete in women's sports. The congressman, father to three boys and three girls, witnessed President Trump going off script several times, demonstrating his personal investment in the issue.

"When did we think we would have to have the government get involved in making sure that girls' sports are protected?" Ciscomani reflected. The NCAA quickly responded to the executive order by adjusting their policies regarding transgender athlete participation in collegiate sports.

Moms for America's National Impact

Kimberly Fletcher, founder and president of Moms for America, detailed the organization's expanding influence and upcoming initiatives. The group is preparing to reintroduce the Declaration of Mothers to Congressional record through Congresswoman Mary Miller, with updated language defining men and women.

Fletcher outlined several major initiatives:

  • A citizenship project helping legal permanent residents prepare for citizenship tests

  • Liberty Trips program featuring 3,000+ historical destinations

  • Hispanic outreach expansion

  • Cottage meetings and local organizing

"The most significant thing we will ever do is raise the next generation," Fletcher emphasized. "These are things that create strong kids, nurture strong moms and dads, solid citizens."

The organization implemented a successful ten-state mobilization strategy focusing on key battleground states including Montana, Arizona, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia. They've also made strategic investments in California and Texas.

"We're not going to lose any more ground," Fletcher stated. "If the Democrats had said California was a lost cause in the 1970s, it would still be a flaming red state. We have to start going in there and moving the needle forward."

Looking Ahead: America's 250th Anniversary

Fletcher announced plans to leverage America's upcoming 250th birthday celebration in 2026 as an opportunity to spark renewed patriotism. The organization is expanding its programs to help families connect with American history through educational initiatives and community engagement.

"We want moms to share it with their children," Fletcher explained. "We're going to be stepping up our expansion of cottage meetings and do a massive marketing campaign to get moms to join online, join in their homes, just learn the story of America, what your rights are, where they come from."
